Today was a long day, I spent most of the day either taking to police, or cancelling credit cards and changing passwords. Our apartment in Lisbon was broken into this morning while we slept. Anna woke me up when she heard a sound. I went to have a look and nothing seemed amiss in the dark of an unfamiliar place. It wasn't until we woke up that I realized the balcony window was pushed open, and my camera bag, wallet, and Anna's purse were all missing. They must have rushed out after he heard me stirring. It was a chilling experience to know that someone entered our space and was just a door away from us while we slept. The thief made away with quit a lot of camera gear, a tablet, and various other things. But the most upsetting thing for me were the pictures and videos on the memory cards.
I am glad I sent a few photos, like this one, to my camera to share on here, as they would've been lost otherwise. I am trying to remind myself that the good memories remain without the photos, but I'm sure it will take time to shake off this feeling. Just a friendly public service announcement, be sure to lock your doors and windows. It just takes a second, but believe me it's worth it.
