Nothing beats going on a bike ride on the beach as the sun begins to set. That sunset was ridiculous, utterly memorizing.
Anyone who knows me can say I that I don’t know how to relax, and that’s pretty much true. I believe I’m defined as an ‘active relaxer’ – can’t sit still and always need to be on the move. It’s an interesting thing because sometimes I seriously ‘fear’ doing nothing, that I am wasting my time. As I reflect, I think that is driven by FOMO. Fear of Missing Out. We are constantly consuming media 24/7 of people we follow doing something but rarely do we see people doing ‘nothing’. FOMO is a real thing, it drives anxiety and sometimes social pressure to do things we don’t want or thing we think we want to do, but clearly it’s because we don’t want to miss out or be left out. Our pack animal nature kicks into high gear, don’t leave without us, we want to fit in.
I remind myself it’s totally OK to stay in and read a book or just take it easy. In the end the real question I, we, need to ask is ‘what do I want to do’ or ‘what do I need today’. Recognizing your mental and physical needs is key to living a holistic life I believe. Just as taking space to reflect. I think that’s one of the amazing things about nature; you can go go go if you want or you can sit there and take a much needed nap. As we rush into a new year make sure you take sometime to ask yourself of your needs.
You might as well go get a bike and ride into the sunset.
