Between appointments and other events over the past week, I’ve spent as much time as possible watching films at @finfilmfest. I love that such a large and diverse film festival happens here every September in my hometown and I always try to catch as much as possible. Some of my favourites features/documentaries this year: Honeyland, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael, Judy (Renée Zellweger was incredible), Leftover Women, and The Parts You Lose (so glad I saw that - highly recommend it!). Favourite shorts: Gun Killers, Balakrishna (about an elephant that was brought to East River, NS in the late 60s - great story telling), Baggage (which was made by some of the funniest people I know: @lisa_buchanan , @adammyattcomedy & @stefmacdonald ), Ice Breakers, The Neighbor’s Window, Bad Morning, The Espresso Machine (in Gaelic, no less), Surrounded by Water, One More Day, It’s Only Monday, Pozole, The Date and Little Grey Bubbles. I always try to see as many shorts as I can, as you often don’t get a chance to see those on the big screen, but if you can find any of them after the festival circuit, those are my pics.
