Day 124: mile 1925.2 - 1957.2
We slept in a bit, on accident, but enjoyed the sunset over Charlton Lake. As we went to hike out, we found Hawt Pocket and Grandma still breaking down camp. I had pumped myself full of caffeine, so we chatted for a few and then hiked out.
Eventually, HP caught us and we hiked together until first lunch at ten miles in. We stopped next to a lake, and procrastinated before hiking on.
Finally we got moving, and six miles later we found a perfect lake for swimming. HP and I went for a swim, while Mango attempted to patch his sleeping pad, using the lake water to find the holes.
Grandma caught us, HP sprinted away. We hiked on and off with Grandma for the rest of the day, until the last few miles, where we had a serious uphill. The boys had gotten ahead, so when I found a tent that looked like HP’s, I said his name but got no response. Well, crap. But Mango and his headlamp appeared out of the woods and directed me to where he had put down his pack. HP was nowhere to be seen, turns out he had gone maybe .2 miles further. Ah well. We set up camp in the dark, and were so tired and cranky we almost considered skipping dinner.
