Entering from the Adriatic Sea or landing by plane into the town of Tivat, the Bay of Kotor grabs you much like a stunning painting or a blistering inferno – you simply can’t look away. Surrounded by seductively rugged mountains and harmonious hills, the emerald waters glisten and hug rocky marble shores adjacent to a narrow road that takes you practically all the way around the Bay. The hamlets along the shore all seem to have a cafe, church and pine tree encrusted tiny park for which to place yourself in ancient beauty.
Old towns such as Perast, Prcanj and Risan are nestled between our two favorite bookends, Herceg Novi, an authentic year-round beautiful small town and Kotor, an UNESCO Heritage Site, tucked deep inside the fjord and protected by centuries old walls that zig zagidly climb all the way to the top of the mountain. Rich history, art, and architecture dating back to Ilirian, Roman and Venetian periods, marble walkways, beaches, restaurants, and quiet, restored Venetian manor retreats all inhabit the Bay.
