One of my favorite quotes I heard someone say recently is, “If we didn’t know darkness, how could we know light?”
It shook me when I heard it. Made me pause and stare in shock because of the depth of truth that single sentence had. We live in a world FILLED with darkness - we curse it, run from it, even try to hide in it. Darkness promotes darkness thus we do all we can to keep it as far away from us as possible.
However if we lived in a world filled only with light - there was no bad, no low places, just endless good. Would we actually know what good is? Or would we just exists because it’s the normal? Would we fall to our knees in gratitude when light shone in our direction? Or would we just let it pass by because it was nothing new. Would we pursue God just as much if everything beautiful was already given to us? At least for me, I think that’s a huge no! How would we know the difference?!
As you see, we clearly know light because we know darkness too well. We have been so far lost in caves - the lowest of lows - so we can recognize that one small spark of light can be so endlessly brilliant to us. We know blessings, gifts, and reception. We are given grace, love, and encouragement because such a light exists.
Every journey we go in will be filled with battles of light and dark - that is hard truth of life. As creatures of light, darkness always lingers around us to dim our spirits. But It’s how you choose to be that will determine your direction - to fall down and fade to darkness, or to put on armor and stand firm to fight. To lean into community and God by letting them carry you through times that seem already lost. You are never alone so don’t retreat defeated. You are cherished and a gift, so let your light shine into others 🧡
