Time spent near the water always puts me in a contemplative mood. Whenever I walk around the lake, I also get to engage in dog parent conversations. It usually goes something like this:
“Oh! I love your dog. He’s so pretty.“
“Thank you,“ I say. “He’s just as wonderful on the inside.“
“Can I pet him?“
“Sure, go ahead.“
And on it goes.
What’s interesting to me about these little conversations is that they provide a moment of connection without any fear of being awkward or strained. It’s an immediate and easily accessible topic of conversation. My dog is fabulous social lubricant. And when we walk around the lake, I get to meet all sorts of new people and connect with them even for a moment.
It’s a lovely way to connect, speak, and part if not as friends at least as people who share a love of dogs. 🐶❤️
isn’t it nice to have an accessible topic of conversation? It helps us remove anxiety as we communicate. Do you have a ready-made topic of conversation when you are out in the world? What do you say? How do you meet people? It’s a tough game but it’s worth it. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
