***WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT*** 2019 Outer Space Competition Honorable Mention: “Space Treaty 2037” by Dana Salama. @danasalama ——————————————————————
Dana is an architectural designer, curator, and researcher based in Toronto, Canada. Her research interests include intersections between spatial politics, visual communications, and architecture.
She says about her entry- “Space Treaty 2037 was inspired by research I began exploring how the properties of an architectural object changed once it was removed from the earth's surface. Lower Earth Orbit is a particularly interesting environment because although it is expansive, it is extremely congested with space junk. The Kessler syndrome further complicates this orbit because it will bring all of our manmade objects to a critical point wherein they can no longer operate. Thus, Space Treaty 2037 reveals a vertical extension of the anthropocene into orbital space.”
