Cathedral Spires 94 2006 Another 3:30 am morning found us driving down from the top of the valley where we were staying to capture this image. The snow hadn?t started a rapid melting and so the Merced River was very calm. The calm water made the reflections possible and the low water exposed the sand spit in the foreground. The next day I returned to the scene just in case there was better light, but it was gone. The snowmelt had increased rapidly and the river was rushing and beginning to overflow the bank with water. I was lucky to capture this image when I did! . . . . #clydebutcher #darkroomphotographer #blackandwhitewhitelandscape #ilfordMGFB #explorecalifornia #northerncalifornia #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark #nationalparkgeek #weareparks #nationalparkphotographer "

And this is why I don’t like being in my pictures...what am I even doing?? Why am I so awkward? • • FUN FACT: Originally established as a national monument in 1909, the area was re-designated Olympic National Park by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1938. In 1976, it became an International Biosphere Reserve, and in 1981 was designated a World Heritage Site. • Covering nearly one million acres, Olympic National Park provides three distinct ecosystems—glaciated mountains, rugged Pacific coastline, and lush temperate forests—and their distinct flora and fauna for nature-lovers to explore. Over 95% of the park is designated wilderness, protecting one of the largest wilderness areas in the lower 48, giving visitors the opportunity to experience remoteness and pristine nature in a way that few other places can. • The 73-mile long coastline has rocky headlands, sandy beaches, thriving tidepools, erosion-formed offshore sea stacks, that provide habitats to marine and intertidal wildlife. The diverse forest communities making up the park provide homes to everythings from acid-loving wild cranberry bushes to giant spruce trees, hundreds of years old. The towering mountain ranges created by tectonic collision are topped with ancient glaciers. The neighboring ecosystems give visitors of Olympic National Park an opportunity to see sea otters, whales, beavers, bears, rhinoceros auklets, golden eagles, and more. The park is also home to endemic species like the Olympic marmot and the Olympic torrent salamander that can be found nowhere else in the world.

I'll post the occasional landscape shot on the stream. I'm guessing these will be few and far between as I usually don't have the patience/attention span for landscape shots so I will ease into it with the Lion and Ram shot (No, I don't remember the actual name so if you know it please post it in the comments). This was taken in Arches National park in Utah. The tree stands alone --- I made it back to Shenandoah National Park. My parents came to visit me a couple weeks ago, so I took them to Shenandoah for a day trip. It was a great day, a whole bunch of kids got their Junior Ranger badges at the visitor center and we got to see the mountains just beginning to come back to life with Spring creeping up the mountains.

I’ve been to the Badlands twice, and so the second time I came expecting because I knew what to expect. But this second time I didn’t see any Buffalo, and the prairie dogs failed to impress, and I left feeling dejected because I knew what to expect. On my way out but not nearly gone, I took off my jacket because it was heavy and I was hot, and on this road I felt the breeze that was cool and that was kind. It was this breeze that before I had not noticed, and it was this breeze that I knew now not to expect.

Reddish-brown calves are born in late April and May, after a gestation period of 9 to 9½ months. Calves can keep up with the herd 2 to 3 hours after birth and they are well protected by their mothers and other members of the herd.

Westward Ho at Sunset. This iconic Phoenix landmark has been around since 1927, making it one of the first buildings in this new city. It was intended to be the tallest building in the city, which it was until 1960 when a bank tower was built to be taller. ————————————————————————- I really love capturing the sunset. You can snap two photos in the same minute and they won’t be the same, you can capture the stillness of what is man-made as the sky dances around it, and bounces off of it.

📷: Canon . New print available for sale - the vibrant flower of the Snow Plant. As the snow melts in the higher elevations, keep an eye out on the ground for this flower. The majority of the plant grows underground and doesn't have chlorophyll. The way it survives is by stealing nutrients from fungi near the roots of trees. The end result is this bright red flower sprouting through the soil. . . This photo shot along the top of The Mist Trail near Nevada Fall. The plant is found from the high elevations of Northern Baja California up to Southern Oregon and parts of Nevada. . . Surreal. And not simply the landscape. ⁣ ⁣ The experience to get here is surreal as well. This spot has a lottery to enter. Twenty people a day. Ten online and ten walk up. Yearly, approximately 150,000 applicants enter for 7,300 permits. So, obviously, demand far exceeds supply. ⁣ ⁣ There is a proposal set forth to allow 96 people per day access to this area. ⁣ ⁣ This landscape is extremely fragile....I know, I was just here. And the allowance of more people is exactly what this area does not need. And it's not simply the footsteps I'm worried about, it's the human waste, be it biological or not. Even now with 20 people allowed it was apparent that people that visit here do not follow LNT principles. I filled a ziplock sandwich bag with garbage collected in and around the area and witnessed a handful of improperly buried waste and TP, which means the people that visit already aren't listening to their Rangers orientation. ⁣ ⁣ Just imagine what it would look like allowing more than quadruple the amount of people...........⁣ ⁣ I'm all for people having the ability to see our public lands and enjoy them, but not at the cost of that public land. ⁣ ⁣ Allowing more people not only means more environmental impact, it also could diminish ones enjoyment of the area. For me, I loved the fact that I knew I would only be seeing 19 other people. I knew I could capture the landscape without a human being in it. I knew I would achieve the solace I desire at such an amazing geological wonder such as this. ⁣ ⁣ If you feel the same way, make your voice heard. Nothing like a nice hike through the forest, with nothing else planned for the day. This last Saturday was just that, a walk along Carbon River trail then up a spur to Ranger Falls and Green Lakes trail. It wasn't nearly as warm as the previous Saturday, but perfect for a hike. And this trail has so much to see! From the streams and waterfalls from the early season runoff, to the old growth, and my favorite is looking at the fallen trees with the new growth rising out of them, much like the tree you see here. I found this spot particularly interesting, with the huge older tree having fallen, then a stream forming underneath, but this youngster has taken root in the large log, and is no longer too small itself. There is just nothing like a nice walk through the forest, and enjoying our beautiful national parks and forests! . ⬇️🇨🇵/🇺🇸 All mountains are hard to climb, all mountains have their own tricks and challenges, all mountains cut your breath and give you sore feet, but all mountains give you unforgettable rewards, the view, the feeling of accomplishment and the right to brag 🤭 I believe life is like a mountain, it's hard, not friendly.

I am still flying high after yesterday. It was probably one of the best days we have ever had for wildlife viewing in Grand Teton! Which was least expected because it was kind of rainy and not great weather. This cross fox is one of the first animals we got to see. Such a beautiful animal. I am super proud of this shot. It is the first wildlife photo I’ve taken that has turned out decent because the fox was so close. My 70-200mm usually isn’t enough reach for the wildlife we see. Just a lucky chance encounter! Most definitely have the wildlife photography bug now. It’s so exciting!!! I love these animals so much. It is such n honor to spend time with them. #photography #wildlife #optoutside #animalkingdom #grandteton #tetonvillage #tetons #jacksonhole #jackson #nationalparks #findyourpark #wildlifeconservation #wildlife_vision #nature_brilliance #letsgetwild #whyihike #naturelovers #discover_wyoming #mountainlife #travelguide #nationalparkgeek #wildlife_vision #natgeo #sonyalpha #usinterior #earthmagic #animals_in_world #marvelouz_animals #wildlife_shots

Mirrored | Acadia National Park. Sometimes I get lucky and the clouds mirror the shape of the rocks. Speaking of lucky, a few minutes after I took this picture, I got a couple good views of a mink as it ran by only a few feet away. I didn't get any pictures (my camera was set up for long exposure wide angle shots... not your typical wildlife settings), but it was still cool to get such a good look. . . 2019 Acadia and Beyond workshops with J.K.
