Experimental shapes - I’m working on a vessel for holding candles at the moment and going through all the forms in my sketch book to settle on one that really stands out to me. What do you really look for in a candle holder?
I enjoy experimenting with both thrown shapes and hand built shapes and have even been toying with the idea of injecting some non functional pieces into my work...maybe even some sculpture! What do you think!?
Basking in the sunshine in this photograph are some little pinch pots for small candles, cone incense, ring dishes or even salt dishes and also a ring which eventually will sit upright and will hold flower stems. I always like to have some sort of experiment on the go whether that’s new forms or new colours or even glaze tests...items so that when I open the kiln there is something that surprises me...or disappoints me or inspires me! When production throwing or working on large orders I think it’s so important to stay fresh not allowing work to become monotonous limiting your mind but continuing to be adventurous including an experimental pieces which give you that excited can’t-wait-to-open-the-kiln feeling every time.
