On Monday this week while praying for someone I was so moved that they really needed some hope. Do you know what I mean? Have you ever had a sense of hopelessness? Need a break in the clouds? I’ve prayed and thought about this all week. Here’s what the dictionary says about hope:
1. the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best
2. to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.
When a doctor looks you in the eyes and says “I’m sorry there’s no cure but we’ll do what we can” hopelessness can set in and be overwhelming.
Where do you you go mentally, emotionally when things appear hopeless? What does your heart tell you to rely on or in whom to rely on when you finally are in a situation when there seems to be no concrete answers? Have you been there? Do you know? Listen to this passage of scripture in Eugene Peterson’s language. “When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can’t break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It’s an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us.” Hebrews 6:1-20 MSG
In my personal experience what that means as much as I appreciate doctors, medicine, medical technology, science, etc they don’t have the last word regarding my life and the longevity of it. God does and not only my life but my family’s and my friend’s and everyone else. That’s where and in Whom I find hope.
My best for your Sunday! 😊
