Today’s Dirty Dog trail Marathon was pretty entertaining... until it wasn’t! Haha. Such a great course and ran pretty flawlessly. I went into the race knowing a handful of people where better at climbing, so the plan was to push within my means and then hunt on the final 10 miles with the downs/flats. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, started to see runners in front of me, I was making up ground and then BAM, I met the ground. Conveniently it happen to be at the steepest most technical down section, I toed the ground and slid on my knee/arm for about 10 Feet. I stood up to access the damage and tried to continue on. I walked to a hobbled jog down the rest of the sketchy fun with thoughts of dropping at the aid station. Once there I looked up the hill and didn’t see anyone. So I made the decision to stop the chase and try to hold on to 4th. Those last few miles hurt, but I got it done. I also completed goal #1 , finish under 4 hours with a 3:59:33. .
I wore the Altra Running King MT 1.5’s which handled the terrain Perfectly! My toes never beat against the end of the shoe and did the job (the fall was my bad! Haha). I used Tailwind Nutrition throughout the run to keep the calories coming.
I’m not sure why more people don’t run this race, it is only year 3, but what a hell of a course!! Thanks Joelle Vaught and crew from The Pulse Running and Fitness Shop for another awesome event! And THANK YOU Elsa for tending to my wounds! I appreciate you!!!
