Gallery Event and Reception Tonight at 5:30pm in the North Gallery! Meet the Architect and Curator of "Recurrent Visions: The Architecture of Marshall Brown Projects"
Spanning over a decade of practice, this selection of work by architect Marshall Brown reimagines the future by revisiting the legacy of modern architecture. Driving his diverse conceptual frameworks, Brown’s work moves between the various scales of domestic, institutional, and civic architecture to embody new relationships between the one and the many. Through his use of collage as an exploratory design method, Brown’s investment in the material history of architecture serves as a resource.
The organization of the exhibition reflects this methodology through three themes that weave throughout Brown’s work: Recurrent Form reconfigures formal categories; Visionary Strategy challenges architectural mindsets; and Emergent Order considers complex phenomena. Featured projects include Dequindre Civic Academy, a monumental proposal for a charter school in Detroit comprised of reconfigured elements drawn from modernist megastructures; Holy City, a historically charged highway interchange in Chicago reimagined as a future eutopia; and Smooth Growth Plan for Washington Park, a project that embraces strategic responses for transformation through the consideration of abandoned properties and informal pedestrian movement. These projects represent the diverse outputs and perspectives that comprise Brown’s expanded view of architecture.
The exhibition is curated by @karenkice and designed by @in_fo_co
